Yoga Blocks

There are variety of brands, material and sizes-thickness and with that the quality changes. Gaiam and Manduka make long lasting products that I own for years and would recommend investing in few.

Combining soft and firm blocks for your yoga practice would be recommended as they can be used in different ways: leaning on a soft block would be more comfortable to the spine vs stepping on a hard firm cork block will give more balance.

Cork Blocks

Manduka Thick Cork Block 4" x 6" x 9" - Pack of 2

Manduka Lean Cork Block 3" x 4" x 8.5" - Pack of 2

Manduka sets usually run between $35-$45 for cork and EVA materials and single block is about half the price, Manduka cork blocks are a well worth investment but if not sure Gaiam have cheaper option:

Gaiam Cork Yoga Brick 4” X 6” x 9” - 1 Block

Gaiam Lean Cork Brick 9" x 3" x 5.5" - 1 Block

Foam Blocks

Yoga Straps

There are few styles of straps; multi loops, smooth with D rings, different length and thickness. Straps should be well sown and sturdy to take your body weight, heavy pulling and stretching as we use them around the feet, armpits, groin…etc. Having few straps for different practices is a great option. Below few options:

Yoga Bolsters

Just as the quality of the yoga blocks matter so does the quality of the yoga bolsters. Bolster comes in different shapes and thicknes, investing in a good quality bolster is recommended as your body lay on it; strong support for the spine and the legs, easy zipper to wash and clean, and natural material for the skin. Some of the best bolsters are made by Manduka, Hugger Mugger.

Bolsters

Manduka Yoga Bolster - Lean (27'' x 7'' x 3.25")

Manduka Yoga Bolster - Rectangular (28" x 11.75'' x 5")

Manduka Yoga Bolster - Round (27'' x 9'' x 9'')

Quality bolsters and meditation cushions usually run from $45-$100 price may vary depending on sales, holiday sales colors …etc. I recommend dark colors if you’ll used it on the ground, outside or meditation/sitting.

Hugger Mugger have a nice wide collection of bolsters intending to use in different areas depending on size and firmness hand made.

Hugger Mugger Standard Yoga Bolster - Firm (6" x 25" x 11")

Hugger Mugger Narrower Yoga Bolster - Firm (‎26'' x 5'‘ x 8'')

Hugger Mugger Pranayama Yoga Bolster - Firm (25'' x 4'' x 6'')

Hugger Mugger Round Yoga Bolster - Firm (27'' x 9'' x 9'')

Yoga Blankets

Blankets are used just as bolster- to elevate our pelvic, to support our knees, fill in the gaps where joints are too tights and when the body just fills too stiff. Towels are a great cheap substitute but whats special about the blankets is the weight and density it offers to support our body weight or deeply comfort our senses when using as regular blanket for relaxation and savanna. Blankets are usually made out of wool and cotton and could be also used for meditation

Meditation Cushion + Bench

We don’t need much to meditate, just a comfortable quiet space and an easy accessible way to sit on the ground. If ground sitting is uncomfortable due to knee or hip issues, sit on a chair, or a low bench where your legs and hips can relax. You can also use the bolsters -blankets-blocks mention above, for example laying down a blanket, while sitting on a bolster while your knees supported by blocks or more blankets. Endless possibilities to make yourself feel comfortable. But if still interested in a specific meditation cushion I would recommend buckwheat filled and cotton cover. As your knees and hips open with time you can remove the buckwheat and adjust the sit to the hight you need. Buckwheat will also mold to your but shape, make it more accessible to sit with ease.

Acupressure - Massage Balls

When buying massage balls, I would recommend balls made out of silicon, easy to clean and smooth to slide/press into. Foam ones are great for traveling but some tend to break. Get multiple balls at the same size (at least 2-3) and if wanting more mix up the sizes. If buying individuals you can always put it in a small bag/fabric/sock to tie them together use it as a double (great for the spine)
